Auke Anne Tadema (1913-1989)

This artist was the grandson of the well-known painter Lawrence Alma Tadema. Unwilling to remain in his grandfather’s shadow, as happens to many sons of well-known fathers, he went his own way and found it in the artists’ world. His strength lay in his drawing technique. His penchant was drawing figures from classical antiquity: Greek and Roman heroes. In England, where he grew up, Auke Anne became acquainted with society life. The work being offered dates from the time he was living in England with his parents. Later he settled in the Netherlands as an artist.
